GovWell
️ About GovWell
We the people (and the taxpayers) deserve good government — but today, interacting with government services is often frustrating and inefficient. GovWell is building the AI-powered platform that transforms how governments serve communities, starting with local agencies.
Our first product helps municipal and county governments modernize complex services like permitting and licensing. GovWell combines a highly configurable SaaS system of record with generative AI that automates work for staff, guides residents through services, and is radically simple to deploy.
Founded in 2023, GovWell powers 3,000+ critical processes for agencies in 28 states serving millions of residents. We’ve raised $9.5M in seed funding from Work-Bench and Bienville Capital, and work in person at our HQ in New York City. Read more about our founding story in TechCrunch.
Role overview GovWell is hiring a Software Engineer, Data Platform to reinvent how our data operations scale. You’ll build the AI-powered tooling, automation, and in-product experiences that turn complex workflows, such as data migrations and GIS integrations, into fast, self-serve systems.
This role reports directly to the CTO and will collaborate closely with product, deployment, and AI engineering to design mission-critical systems that enable GovWell’s rapid scaling. You’ll work on everything from training AI models that improve migration accuracy to building in-product data tools used directly by customers.
We have a hybrid work culture that combines regular in-person collaboration at our New York City office (3+ days per week) with flexibility to work remotely.
☀️ Why GovWell?
A mission that matters:
Building AI-powered products to fix outdated government systems isn’t just a technical challenge—it’s a historic opportunity to improve our foundational relationship with government and ensure trillions of tax dollars result in high quality services. WATCH: Mission & Vision with CEO & Co-Founder Troy LeCaire
Real-world impact:
GovWell’s product is the system of record for government services that affect millions of Americans. From streamlining permitting for small businesses to accelerating affordable housing development, your work will make an immediate difference.
Join a startup in hyper-growth:
We’ve found product-market fit and are scaling the business very quickly (6X ARR growth in the last year). As an early team member, you’ll learn what it takes to build a successful startup. You’ll work closely with the founders while enjoying exceptional autonomy and ownership over your work.
What you’ll do
Leverage AI to automate data transformation by training, evaluating, and deploying models that learn from past migrations to continuously improve mapping accuracy and data quality.
Build self-serve import tooling that turns one-off engineering processes, like schema validation and field mapping, into reusable, productized tools for internal teams and customers.
Own and evolve the data migration pipeline, redesigning how raw data, from CSVs to SQL dumps, flows into GovWell to create repeatable, auditable, and self-serve systems for non-engineers.
Lead GIS data ingestion and integration through scalable pipelines that import and maintain spatial data from sources like ArcGIS REST APIs.
Contribute directly to the core product by understanding how imported data drives in-app functionality, identifying friction points, and implementing improvements that elevate the overall GovWell experience.
Who you are
Ability to problem solve and code across the stack, comfortable reading and contributing to the main product codebase in Node.js, React, and TypeScript.
Applied AI experience, you've built or fine-tuned AI and LLM systems that automate complex data transformation, mapping, or validation tasks.
Product-minded and able to connect backend data design with front-end user impact, treating data systems as part of a cohesive product experience.
Skilled in data engineering with strong proficiency in SQL, TypeScript, and building reliable ETL/ELT pipelines for real-world, messy datasets.
Fluent in GIS concepts and tools, with experience using shapefiles, ArcGIS REST APIs, or PostGIS for spatial data modeling and processing.
A systems thinker who designs for scalability, maintainability, and long-term reusability rather than one-off scripts.
You align closely with our Core Values.
