Assistant Controller, Real Estate Accounting Location:
Bethesda, Columbia, or Baltimore, MD (Hybrid - 1-2 days per week in-office)
Job Summary: A real estate nonprofit organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to support accounting operations for its development, asset management, and property management functions. This role will focus on consolidations and multi-entity accounting and reports to the Controller.
Responsibilities:
Maintain books and records for multiple entities Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close Prepare consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules Coordinate with external auditors Prepare schedules for tax filings Support accounting for real estate transactions (pre-development, acquisitions, dispositions, consolidations) Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules Manage intercompany accounting and reconciliations Mentor junior accounting staff Ensure compliance with internal controls Assist with accounting policy updates and process improvements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred 5-7 years of accounting/finance experience (3+ years considered for strong candidates) Experience with multi-entity consolidations and GAAP Public accounting and real estate/partnership accounting experience preferred Advanced Excel skills required, Workday experience a plus Strong communication and organizational skills
