Description of Work RECRUITING FOR 2 POSITIONS
The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Iredell County, is seeking two (2) qualified individuals to serve in the position of Deputy Clerk, Criminal Division, in the legal system of North Carolina. Criminal Deputy Clerks perform specialized clerical and administrative work in a Clerk of Superior Court office that involves processing criminal cases. In the Criminal Division work may involve processing only one phase of a criminal case such as the initial filing, continuances or judgments for one or more areas of criminal district court cases (misdemeanors, infractions, and appeals from magistrate court), or superior court cases (felonies or appeals from district court). Work involves providing information to the public, attorneys, law enforcement, and others on criminal forms and procedures, establishing and maintaining hard copy and electronic files, and reviewing and processing documents related to assigned cases.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
As a Criminal Deputy Clerk, you may perform a variety of duties such as, but not limited to, the following:
Courtroom Support Assist judges in open court by maintaining records, marking exhibits, administering oaths, and entering case actions into the eCourts (Odyssey) system in real time. Case Processing and Data Entry
Prepare, review, and enter criminal case information, judgments, warrants, and related documents accurately in eCourts and other state systems. Customer Service
Provide professional assistance to the public, attorneys, and law enforcement in person, by phone, and via email regarding court procedures, case information, and filing requirements. Record Management
File, organize, and maintain court records and ensure proper confidentiality, security, and accuracy in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes and Judicial Branch policies. Courtroom Presence
Attend criminal court sessions; call cases, record dispositions, and assist with courtroom flow and docket management. Legal Understanding
Apply working knowledge of criminal law, North Carolina General Statutes, and court procedures to ensure compliance in document processing and case handling. Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with other deputy clerks and supervisors to support daily operations and meet court deadlines.
New hires may be paid above the minimum rate depending on education and experience in a North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court office.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Knowledge of:
NC general statutes; policies and procedures related to the local judicial district; eWarrants; ACIS/Criminal Court Information System (CCIS) and general office and clerical procedures.
Skills in:
basic math; active listening; managing a high volume of public interaction; effectively communicating both verbally and in writing; fast, accurate data entry; and MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to:
read and comprehend legal documents; interact diplomatically with a diverse group of people; multi-task; adjust to unexpected events; meet deadlines; organize and manage files; work independently; maintain confidentiality; and provide procedural information without giving legal advice.
