The Junior Accountant supports the mission of the Association through accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations. This position is responsible for overseeing and maintaining core accounting functions, including purchase orders, accounts payable, and credit card administration, while also assisting with journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations. The Junior Accountant enters and processes purchase orders and invoices directly, reviews purchase orders entered by the staff for compliance and accuracy, and provide training and support to promote consistent financial practices across the Association.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 1-3 years of accounting or accounts payable experience preferred; nonprofit experience a plus. Working knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting principles. Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving ability. Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Purchase Orders & Invoicing:

Enter and process purchase orders and vendor invoices in accordance with Association policies. Review and approve purchase orders entered by other staff to ensure proper coding, documentation, and policy compliance. Monitor open purchase orders and follow up to ensure timely closure or resolution. Provide guidance and training to staff on purchase order and invoice entry processes.

Accounts Payable:

Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, approval workflows, and payment disbursements. Maintain accurate vendor records and ensure compliance with W-9 and 1099 reporting requirements. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

Credit Card Oversight:

Administer the association's credit card program, including transaction review, coding verification, and monthly reconciliation. Communicate with cardholders to ensure timely submission of receipts and adherence to credit card policy.

Journal Entries & Accruals:

Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including recurring entries, accruals, and reclassifications. Ensure journal entries are properly supported and coded to the correct accounts.

Reconciliations & Month-End Support: Perform monthly account reconciliations and assist with the month-end closing process. Support the preparation of year-end schedules and documentation for the annual audit.

Policy Compliance & Improvement:

Uphold internal controls, financial policies, and procedures related to payables, purchasing, and credit card use. Recommend process and policy improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and compliance.

Collaboration & Communication:

Work closely with the accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Partner with branch and department staff to clarify accounting procedures and promote accountability in financial practices.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth offers a competitive salary and benefits package for selected candidates.

The yearly salary range for this position is $48,000 - $50,000 and will be commensurate with the selected candidates experience.
