Job Description The role is for a Usability/Human Factors Engineer II in our software development team, responsible for developing and sustaining feature‑rich capabilities that modernize visualization and presentation tools for mission analytic users. You will solve user‑experience challenges on a complex application used by a wide range of users, working closely with developers, managers, and system engineers to keep products modern and cutting‑edge. Your tasks include researching and documenting user workflows, designing mockups, engaging with users, and collaborating with development teams using tools such as Axure and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.

Team: Approximately 15 software, system, and test engineers. Work performed at a contractor facility in Annapolis Junction.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in cognitive and/or experimental psychology, human factors engineering, or an engineering‑related field (e.g., systems engineering, software engineering, business process engineering). Advanced degree preferred.

Required Qualifications

At least ten (10) years’ experience in user experience design, usability testing, and related fields, with familiarity in task analysis, user interface design, and usability testing.

At least five (5) years of experience in user‑experience design and testing.

Direct experience conducting usability testing and collaborating closely with product designers and process engineers during the development cycle.

Experience designing and conducting user surveys to gather feedback.

Ability to apply usability principles throughout all phases of the software engineering cycle (analysis, design, implementation, and deployment) and to research user profiles, tasks, workflows, and scenarios to inform UI design.

Desired Qualifications

Professional certifications such as Certified Human Factors Engineering Professional, Certified Usability Analyst, or equivalent.

Clearance TS/SCI with Polygraph required.

Other Requirements U.S. Citizenship.

Compensation Typical salary range: $110,000 – $180,000. Salary commensurate with experience and additional qualifications. Complete rewards package includes competitive compensation, benefits, and opportunities for growth.
