Job Summary
The VP & Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) is responsible for leading and managing the pharmacy services across Onvida Health’s multiple campuses, including inpatient, outpatient, and clinical pharmacy operations. This role ensures strategic growth and alignment of pharmacy services with the organization’s mission, vision, and long‑term objectives. The VP & CPO will provide executive leadership in pharmacy operations, fiscal management, quality improvement, and human resources management, while ensuring exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and continuous innovation within the department.
Responsibilities
Planning/Vision:
Provides vision, forward thinking, and strategic planning in a proactive manner while being open‑minded and creative in establishing a strategic direction; develops an organized strategy to achieve both short and long‑term objectives for the department; effectively communicates strategy to obtain commitment by the responsible individuals. Leads the strategic planning process for the department, integrates plans with the medical center, works with other leaders and physicians, and evaluates emerging technologies and programs.
Fiscal Management:
Demonstrates accountability for financial results through development of an annual budget and operational plan; manages performance based on the plan; identifies program or service growth opportunities; oversees the department’s annual budget, ensuring effective cost containment, revenue growth, and financial sustainability across all pharmacy services. Implements financial tracking processes and collaborates with finance, business development, and clinical teams to identify new revenue‑generating opportunities.
Customer Service:
Exhibits commitment to providing excellent service to patients, physicians, employees, and other customers; communicates effectively with all stakeholders; supports collaboration between patients, families, health care practitioners, and leaders; oversees internal and external communications, provides updates on performance, and represents pharmacy services in community outreach and media.
Operational Management / Quality:
Directs pharmacy‑related operational activities, ensuring consistent delivery of high‑quality patient care while meeting budgetary and operational targets; develops processes and procedures aligned with organizational goals; champions a culture of continuous quality improvement; ensures compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements; establishes performance standards and tracks quality metrics.
System Thinking:
Works collaboratively with stakeholders to align pharmacy goals with organizational objectives; drives integration across service lines; fosters relationships with nursing, clinical operations, and senior leadership; evaluates operational processes for improvement and implements evidence‑based practices.
Human Resources Management:
Engages in recruiting and retention strategies; ensures workforce has necessary skills; partners with HR to develop long‑term HR plans; builds a culture of collaboration and accountability; leads recruitment, development, and retention of a highly skilled pharmacy workforce.
Community:
Leverages system capabilities to increase value for external and internal customers; champions community involvement; promotes community health initiatives and expands pharmacy services that enhance patient access to care.

Required Qualifications
Pharm.D. or equivalent advanced pharmacy degree.
Arizona Pharmacist license.
Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmacy leadership, including managing multiple campuses or service lines; at least 3 years of supervisory and strategic management experience in a health system.
Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated success in leading complex pharmacy operations and services across multiple settings (inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory care).
Strong financial acumen with experience in budget development, cost control, and performance management.
Proven track record in leading change, driving strategic initiatives, and optimizing operational efficiency.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence stakeholders and build relationships across diverse teams.
Deep knowledge of pharmacy‑related regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and patient safety standards.
Experience with community outreach and promoting pharmacy services in regional healthcare settings.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare management, or a related field.
Board certification in clinical pharmacy or leadership (e.g., BCPS, BCACP, FASHP).
