Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Histo Tech I (FGP) – Manhattan, Over Night. In this role the successful candidate will prepare frozen tissue specimens for examination during Mohs micrographic surgery. The Mohs Clinical Histotechnician is essential in ensuring accurate, timely pathology results while maintaining laboratory standards for safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance. The position requires independent judgment, expertise in frozen specimen preparation, histology protocols, and special stains, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while ensuring accuracy and adherence to all laboratory and regulatory standards.
Job Responsibilities
Accession, gross/ink, embed, section, H&E stain, cover‑slide specimens; prepare special stains and solutions (e.g., Mart‑1); perform frozen sections using a cryostat.
Maintain QC logs, reagent and H&E logs; ensure accurate documentation of procedures and specimen information; maintain updated lab and safety documentation.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab instruments; train staff on new equipment; manage chemical storage and disposal per safety protocols.
Follow all NYS and health/safety standards; ensure ongoing certification and adherence to Mohs lab protocols.
Assist in training technologists, technicians, and support staff; provide supervisory support in the absence of a lab supervisor.
Perform additional tasks as assigned to maintain laboratory workflow and efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications Associates degree from an approved clinical laboratory technician program. A high school degree will only be accepted if the individual has the designated experience defined by NYS and has obtained their NYS license through the grandparenting pathway defined by NYS. Six months of experience in a histology laboratory. Certification by the NYS Education Department as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Certified Histological Technician is required.
Required Licenses: Certified Histotechnician, Clinical Lab Technician‑NYS, Clinical Lab Technologist‑NYS.
Preferred Qualifications American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification as a Histology Technician (ASCP‑HT) preferred.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
