Job Summary Performs a variety of manual and semi‑skilled tasks in the repair, maintenance and beautification of an assigned park area, playground, gymnasium, public cemetery, grounds adjacent to public buildings and other landscaped areas; operates light equipment and tools; maintains and operates passenger type power mowers; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples Of Duties The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position.

Cares for and maintains lawns, hedges, trees, and shrubbery, by cleaning, planting, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping, and raking;

Assists in planting shrubbery and plants, sodding lawns, and propagating plants and shrubs from seeds, cuttings, and roots;

Cleans comfort stations, pavilions, gymnasiums, swimming pools, water fountains, barbecue pits and other facilities in public parks and recreation and other areas;

Maintains athletic fields and baseball diamonds in good condition for play;

Enforces rules and regulations applicable to the protection of public safety and public property;

Operates, maintains, and makes minor repairs to passenger type power mowers to maintain playing fields, landscaped areas, and other grassed areas; maintains lawns and trims grass and ground cover along streets and highways, medial strips, around buildings, etc.;

Operates light motorized equipment and tools as required;

May operate an automobile or truck in the performance of duties;

May make minor maintenance repairs such as changing light bulbs and worn sockets and replacing faucets, washers, and toilet floats;

May make simple oral and written reports;

Occasionally assists in the various trades as required; and

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school.

License Requirement Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Hawaii type 3 or equivalent).
