Powertrain Systems Engineer
role at
Alakai Technologies Corporation
Description Alaka’i Technologies is a fast-paced startup with the mission to enable hydrogen air mobility as a solution for clean travel and logistics networks. We are a group of trailblazers with a rich history of learning fast through designing and prototyping multiple aircraft and powerplants. We are looking for talented engineers who thrive in loosely structured environments and are able to take brand new concepts from whiteboard through prototyping and deployment.
Responsibilities The Powertrain Systems Engineer is responsible for developing and testing the aircraft’s power systems from fuel storage, through electric power generation and distribution, to the electric drivetrain. They will be involved in the aircraft’s full powertrain design from the concept design stages through prototyping and deployment. They have strong problem-solving skills and are comfortable working with a small team and wearing many hats.
Develop hydrogen electric power distribution architectures
Build models to analyze and optimize major systems and components.
Tune these models based on bench testing data.
Manage system requirements from development through validation and verification
Work closely with suppliers and the testing team to define the powertrain performance characteristics.
Requirements
Experience with systems engineering lifecycles
Strong foundation of core engineering principles (Electrical/ thermal dynamic systems)
Experience developing, analyzing, and/or modeling electric powertrain systems (e.g. lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, electric motors, inverters, thermal systems).
Experience with hydrogen systems
Knowledge of optimization tools and MBSE frameworks
