Pay Range $97,000 - $105,000 DOE
Work Schedule Hybrid, Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm, Full Time, Day shift, 40 hours/week.
Job Summary Direct/Manage/Supervise one or more accounting teams. Ensure university adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other accounting standards. Ensure timely preparation and review of all required regulatory filings. Advise on annual budgeting and prepare accounting reports for executive leadership. Review work submitted by accountants and manage accounting close processes. Perform analysis on financials and accounting metrics for presentation to leadership. First-level manager. Manage the activities of supervisors and/or individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews. Broad knowledge of the field with demonstrated leadership skills.
Responsibilities
Owner of General Ledger including system configuration (in conjunction with Financial System Support), access, maintenance, testing, and resolution of any system issues or outages.
Understand how the General Ledger impacts financial reporting.
Provide guidance to Associate Director, Associate Controller, and Controller on how business process or chart of account changes will effect the general ledger and closeout processes.
Responsible/oversee daily, weekly, and monthly accounting processes.
Supervise staff including workload management, business process management, KPIs, etc.
Assist in year end close and annual financial audit.
Assist in preparation of any necessary reporting.
Review all of responsible team’s processes, propose and implement any needed process changes.
Set and maintain KPIs for team.
Minimum Qualifications EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Experience managing a general ledger and associated daily, weekly, and monthly accounting processes.
Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Candidates who are CPA‑eligible (per the State of Utah Division of Occupational Licensing rules) may be considered.
Experience with process improvement and implementation.
Understanding of Financial Accounting Standards Board or GASB rules and guidelines.
