Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Primate Veterinary Services, the Staff Veterinarian (VETERINARIAN 3) provides comprehensive veterinary care and preventive medicine for over 5,000 non‑human primates housed at the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC) in Davis, CA. The role involves routine animal rounds, emergency and critical care, clinical procedures, reviewing laboratory results, and supporting ongoing research projects. Responsibilities include oversight of Animal Health Technicians, training students and staff, maintaining veterinary records, and providing on‑call coverage as required. Apply By Date

Licensed DVM in California (or attain CA license within 6 months of hire) Board certified by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine Completion of a residency program in Laboratory Animal Medicine and Surgery Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from a recognized, accredited veterinary school Experience in medical primatology, including diagnosis, surgical procedures and treatment of non‑human primates Experience in preventive medicine programs for laboratory housed non‑human primates (vaccination, parasitology, bacteriology, virology screening) Experience in investigator project support, experimental protocol participation, research design, and laboratory‑directed activities Experience addressing sensitive issues Experience in communications related to the use of laboratory animals in biomedical and translational research Knowledge of humane care and housing standards per AAALAC guidelines Preferred Qualifications
Applied experience with institutional and federal regulations governing non‑human primate use (USDA Animal Welfare Act, ILAR Guide, Endangered Species Act, FDA Good Laboratory Practice, California Public Health Law) Advanced clinical and surgical experience with large and small non‑human primates Strong communication skills for consultation with senior management and scientists across disciplines Teaching experience in classroom, seminar, or one‑to‑one settings Knowledge of gross necropsy and basic histopathology of non‑human primates Interpersonal and organizational skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders Ability to work in a deadline‑driven environment with attention to detail and superior organizational management Comfort with quantitative and narrative data and staying up‑to‑date with new medical information Key Responsibilities
