Salary (Monthly): $3,631.00 – $4,533.00. Salary (Annually): $43,572.00 – $54,396.00.
Job Information This position requires a criminal background check. A valid vehicle operator's license is required. Undergraduate or graduate work may substitute for experience up to two years (e.g., 24 graduate semester hours or 36 graduate quarter hours).
Overview The PH Laboratory Technician 3 supports laboratory testing and operations in the TDH Division of Laboratory Services. Under immediate supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, Manager, or Director, the incumbent conducts laboratory and operational tasks including but not limited to preparing media and reagents, washing glassware, maintaining equipment, specimen/sample accessioning, warehouse receiving, and training other laboratory technicians. This classification performs routine technical and non‑technical work that supports laboratory testing and operations of average difficulty, more complex and broader scope than PH Technician 1 and 2.
Responsibilities
Assist laboratory personnel in laboratory testing processes and operations including but not limited to routine laboratory and administrative tasks, prioritizing workloads, and completing assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
Assist laboratory personnel in routine administrative and clerical work, data management and record retention in accordance with section and division processes and procedures.
Accurately receive, accession, and route specimens/samples to appropriate laboratory section/areas for processing and testing.
Assist laboratory personnel in specimen/sample inventory and management, reagent and supply inventory, procurement, waste management and disposal, and preparation/distribution of reagents, media, supplies for laboratory testing and operations.
Contribute to laboratory processes and procedures, perform routine equipment service and maintenance, and assist in process improvements and troubleshooting.
Communicate and coordinate laboratory operational and testing activities/tasks with laboratory personnel, supervisor and/or managers. Notify laboratory supervisors and/or managers of any operational issues and maintain effective communications among personnel.
Participate in section and division activities and initiatives.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications Education and Experience Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and at least two years full‑time, pertinent laboratory experience in a related field of study.
Necessary Special Qualifications A valid vehicle operator's license is required for employment.
Substitution of Education for Experience Undergraduate or graduate work received from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for the required experience on a year‑to‑year basis to a maximum of two years (e.g., 24 graduate semester hours or 36 graduate quarter hours). A transcript with all credits is required.
