The Physicist applies the principles and theories of physics to improve medical equipment and technology in order to help diagnose and treat patients. The Physicist is responsible for maintaining all equipment in the department. The Physicist verifies accuracy of all dosimetric plans and provides care for all Oncology patients. The Physicist will also conduct research and experiment in the area of structure and properties of matter, transformation and propagation of energy and the relationships between matter and energy. Develops processes and procedures related to these relationships. Performs weekly and monthly radiation measurements and yearly calibration on all treatment units. Monitors equipment in Radiation Oncology to ensure it is functioning safely. Maintains regulatory agency records and reports. Analyzes alternative treatment plans, supervises dosimetry treatment planning functions. Implements assessment/treatment and care based on the developmental stages of the patient. Oversees Quality Assurance on radiation therapy treatment devices and develops and maintains Quality Assurance programs for all treatment modalities. Ensures the accuracy of treatment unit parameters and settings used for patient treatment, including the transfer of planning data between devices. Conducts dosimetry calculations for external beam, brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceutical therapy, including in-vivo dosimetry and measurement systems. Participates in the implementation of new programs and technologies, such as information management systems and new treatment modalities. Provides medical physicist consultation to physicians, staff, and patients as needed. Minimum qualifications:
Master's Required American Board of Radiology (ABR) Therapeutic Med Physics-Cert (TMP-C)
