Hybrid position in Exton, PA or Lake Mary, Florida – 2 to 3 days per week in office.

The Senior Design Mechanical Engineer is a key contributor responsible for design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging for FARO's metrology products.

Responsibilities

Key individual contributor able to work autonomously to support the design of new metrology instrument products.

Support projects from concept to production in close coordination with related departments and vendors.

Serve as subject matter expert for product external design, including industrial design, plastic molded part design, and user interfaces.

Conduct feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA software.

Develop and coordinate with vendors to provide finished work that meets requirements.

Perform hands‑on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of prototypes to ensure design requirements are met.

Analyze and refine high‑level requirements.

Develop assembly, calibration, and compensation techniques.

Build BOMs for manufacturing and assembly.

Guide and assist operations with creation of assembly instructions.

Serve as a mentor to other mechanical engineers and designers in areas of expertise.

Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.

A minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical/industrial engineering experience. Preference towards 10 years of relevant experience.

Mechanical design using SolidWorks or similar CAD package.

Surface modeling using SolidWorks or similar CAD package.

Design of injection molded parts.

Industrial design and evaluation of products for improved user interaction (UI/UX).

Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Design of machined, sheet‑metal, and cast parts.

System error budgets and tolerance stack‑ups.

Finite element analysis (FEA) using SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS.
