ERM is seeking a

Managing Technical Consultant, Power and Renewables (Senior Level)

to join our California team and support the domestic Impact Assessment service area. In this role you will focus on permitting, regulatory compliance, and CEQA/NEPA projects for energy clients primarily in the western United States.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide technical consulting support for environmental permitting and compliance for power generation, electrical transmission, and renewable energy projects, with emphasis on CEQA, NEPA, Clean Water Act Sections 401/404, Endangered Species Act, and equivalent state/local regulations.

Support large compliance programs in a data management and communication role for renewable energy projects, emphasizing CEQA, NEPA, Clean Water Act Sections 401/404, Endangered Species Act, and equivalent state/local regulations.

Contribute to preparing impact assessment deliverables and perform project delivery activities such as report writing, organizing data collection, conducting field work, performing literature review, and developing client recommendations.

Collaborate with impact assessment practitioners across offices to execute projects covering environmental impact assessment, land planning, facility siting & permitting, risk assessment, and water resources management.

Complete work assignments in accordance with ERM's management system, format, and quality standards.

Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations for scope‑specific assignments.

Interact directly with clients and their SMEs on matters related to biology and environmental science.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in environmental science/engineering, biology/ecology, planning, or similar field.

6+ years of impact assessment and environmental permitting experience, including consulting experience.

Prior experience developing NEPA and CEQA documentation, and state permitting requirements (AZ, NV, CA, and other western states) is an asset.

High technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices, with a solid grasp of key energy sector issues.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience writing comprehensive technical reports and standards.

Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced consulting environment, handling multiple assignments, meeting deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle for frequent travel.

PREFERRED

8+ years of impact assessment and environmental permitting experience, including consulting experience.

Experience permitting projects within the California Coastal Zone under the California Coastal Commission or local coastal plans.

Annual base pay in the range of $87,316 – $106,972 (USD). This range is based on factors such as education, experience, and geographic location.
