Overview The Management, HR and Information Systems Area of the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly seeks two (2) full-time, tenure track, academic year positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the primary area of Information Systems (IS), with appointment beginning August 17, 2026.

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for the Assistant Professor rank is $135,100 - $149,300.

About the Department The Management, HR, and Information Systems Area encompasses a variety of forward-thinking, career-focused disciplines. Our faculty conduct widely recognized research and teach courses in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Organizational Behavior, and Business Strategy.

Required Qualifications The successful candidate must have completed or be near completion of a doctorate or equivalent degree in Information Systems or a closely related field from an AACSB-accredited institution. The PhD/DBA should be awarded by the time of appointment in Fall 2026. Applicants are expected to demonstrate exemplary teaching, a strong publication record and research pipeline, and currency in their professional field.

Special Conditions The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in withdrawal of the offer. Cal Poly cannot deny an applicant a position solely due to a criminal conviction history until an individualized assessment is performed.

Current employees offered campus positions requiring a background check will also undergo one if legally required or designated as sensitive. Sensitive positions are those involving heightened risk to children, safety and security, or significant financial risk.

Additional Policies Cal Poly is smoke and tobacco-free. The CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy applies to CSU-affiliated work outside California. Faculty are expected to establish an on-campus presence.

Working Arrangement and Year-Round Operations Subject to planning and approval, Cal Poly anticipates a possible transition to semester-based year-round operations (YRO). Under YRO, full-time academic year faculty may be assigned to teach two consecutive semesters out of three offered annually. The two-semester sequence constitutes the regular academic year appointment. Faculty may be eligible to teach in the third semester for additional compensation, subject to departmental needs and University policy.
