Overall Position Competency: TMP
The Temporary Property Security (Residence Halls) unit operates within the Fayetteville State University Department of Police and Public Safety. This unit is responsible for providing security support to the residence halls. The role involves patrolling the designated residence hall, lobby area, hallways, exterior entrances/exits, and other areas within or immediately around the residence hall. It also involves monitoring access by checking IDs and Hall Entry Cards, and registering guests during assigned work hours.
Responsibilities Secure, guard, and protect property and grounds. Patrol the interior and exterior of residence hall via foot. Guard property against fire, damage, theft, or other hazards; monitor assigned areas for possible violations of policies, regulations, and rules of conduct; recognize and report unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations. Deliver complete checks of residence halls hourly, document discrepancies, and report findings immediately to the dispatcher via radio. Operate and maintain security enforcement equipment, maintain related records and security reports. Attend briefings and training from police personnel and the Office of Residence Life. Sign in/out at Dispatch Office and designated residence hall. Check student identification cards when necessary. Attend weekly residence hall staff meetings and participate in designated staff training activities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High School diploma or equivalent and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require a valid N.C. driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Technical Knowledge: Understands security, traffic, and parking enforcement practices; basic first aid; comprehensive knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations applicable to the property; proficiency in using security enforcement equipment (gates, radios, computers, etc.) and performing routine maintenance.
Communication Skills: Ability to communicate information orally or in writing; listen and respond appropriately; convey policies, rules, and regulations with tact and courtesy; complete reports; interact with co-workers, supervisors, emergency response personnel, university officials, and the public.
Security, Patrol, and Enforcement: Patrols, guards, and secures property and grounds; monitors for violations and issues parking citations; assists in emergency response; supports special events, controls and directs traffic, erects barricades, and provides motorist assistance.
Decision Making: Identifies problems and takes appropriate action quickly and soundly; recognizes critical incidents and initiates action based on knowledge and procedures.
Additional Requirements Possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License and ability to achieve certification as a DCI operator within one year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications At least 3 years of local law enforcement experience.
