First Citizens Bank is seeking a Business Systems Analyst III to lead system analysis efforts, deliver strategic insight, and serve as a technical expert for business systems within the Bank. This role supports the Foreign Exchange team, contributing to the continued build-out of investments, capital markets, cash, and liquidity management capabilities.
Overview This remote role will primarily support system operations, performance, and usage. The analyst will develop advanced solutions and specifications to resolve process issues, coordinate testing and development, and provide leadership to less experienced analysts. The position interfaces with business units, application development teams, shared services, and infrastructure areas.
Responsibilities
Data Analysis – sources, compiles, and interprets data; performs advanced data analysis and communicates results, handling special projects or directing a work group’s analysis efforts.
Identifying Requirements – determines system requirements, documents through specifications, reports, or project plans, resolves complex factors, and ensures compliance through monitoring and analysis.
Reporting – provides strategic insight to senior management via reports, evaluates systems using data, user input, and extensive testing, and develops process enhancements.
System Support – offers expert technical support, responds to inquiries, ensures smooth operation, handles escalated issues, implements modifications, and serves as an analytics resource.
Lead engagement with business partners – analyze changing business needs, communicate system implications of proposed changes.
Manage and coordinate initial assessment, analysis, requirements, development, testing, and implementation of incremental enhancements.
Serve as liaison with business owners to facilitate elicitation and prioritization of initiatives, including vendor interface design, user interface specifications, and report design.
Convert application designs into data models and interface/data mapping specifications.
Collaborate with developers to understand data structures, sources, and processes during development.
Apply advanced knowledge of systems integration through Web services, ETL, etc.
Identify and resolve data integrity issues across multiple systems.
Provide system production support, change requests, and maintenance.
Demonstrate solid written and verbal communication, problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.
Work through phases of systems and data analysis, communicating status, prioritizing requirements, and guiding process and system solutions.
Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of experience in Systems Support, Analytics, or Operational Support • OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Systems Support, Analytics, or Operational Support
Preferred Qualifications
6-8 years experience as a business systems analyst in the financial industry (Payments, Liquidity, Cash Management, Group Finance, Regulatory Reporting, Product Control, etc.)
Proven track record in business requirements elicitation, translation to functional and non‑functional requirements, solution design, story writing, test planning, and change management.
Experience in business process reengineering and systems analysis.
Experience with data management projects, including data analysis, governance, quality, and lineage.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to analyze business requirements and determine processing flow and system dependencies.
Experience defining test strategy and writing test cases.
Experience with SDLC and Agile methodologies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; history of engagement with business partners and stakeholders.
Functional knowledge of Payment Gateways for Swift & FED, Payment Sanctions screening, Payment Fraud systems, Payment Workflow Management systems, Foreign Exchange, Trade Finance, and Treasury.
Strong SQL skills – ability to write complex and effective queries.
Technical acumen with understanding of API, messaging infrastructure, distributed computing, integration patterns, event stream processing, micro‑services, and cloud native development.
Ability to translate complex requirements into a functional system design.
Experience in data analytics and ability to dig into data.
Experience juggling multiple projects and tasks.
Rapid absorption of new information or domain knowledge – quick learner who can develop deep understanding of systems and interfaces.
