Leave of Absence and Benefits Specialist
American Museum of Natural History is seeking a full‑time Leave of Absence & Benefits Specialist to coordinate the leave of absence programs and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including FMLA, PFL, Workers' Compensation, Disability, and Military benefits. The specialist serves as the primary point of contact for employee leave inquiries and assists with benefits administration.
Pay Range Base pay: $60,000 - $70,000 per year. Salary determined by experience and qualifications. Overtime eligible.
Responsibilities
Prepare, complete, and maintain required correspondence and forms for leave admin.
Process and maintain accurate records and reports of all leave activity.
Counsel employees on leave processes.
Assist with ADA accommodations and processes.
Handle benefits inquiries and administer health & welfare plans.
Liaison with payroll, leave vendors, and union disability departments.
Prepare and process NYS Paid Family Leave compliance filings.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of experience in benefits administration.
In‑depth knowledge of leave programs and governing laws (HIPAA, FMLA, PFL).
Proven knowledge of benefits and HRIS systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Benefits‑related certifications (e.g., CEBS, SHRM).
Physical Demands
Remain stationary for prolonged periods.
Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
Move around the museum campus.
