Research Assistant
This position serves multiple research functions within Dr. Jesse Stewart's Cardiometabolic Behavioral Medicine (CBM) Lab, housed in the Department of Psychology at Indiana University Indianapolis. The Research Assistant will have a dedicated workstation in the CBM Lab and will work on National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded clinical trials, examining the effects of psychological interventions (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy for depression and insomnia) on the risk of cardiometabolic diseases (e.g., diabetes and cardiovascular disease) in people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and primary care patients.
Responsibilities
Makes recruitment phone calls and schedules assessment visits
Assists with the running assessment visits at the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) Clinical Research Center
Helps to prepare Institutional Review Board (IRB) materials and other regulatory documents
Enters and manages data
Attends weekly research assistant and lab meetings with other CBM Lab members
Education Required
Bachelor's degree
Work Experience Required
Some experience working in a research setting
Skills Required
Proficient in personal computer (PC) use and Microsoft Office
Attention to detail
Possesses excellent communication and organizational skills
Demonstrates dependability, as well as positive phone and people skills
This position has long periods of working at a computer or phone for much of the workday, as well as moving to various locations on the Indiana University Indianapolis campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.
Candidates planning to attend graduate/professional school in a psychology or medical field will receive preference, as they will have access to clinical psychology faculty and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students and can earn a strong letter of recommendation for applications. In addition, they will develop relevant clinical research skills and could earn authorship on publications and presentations.
