Job Description Join a professional team of Utility Coordinators dedicated to the delivery of Roadway Design projects! As a Utility Coordinator, you will be directly involved in the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Roadway Design projects and make critical decisions to assist utility companies in relocating facilities that are in conflict with construction activities. Job Duties
Identify and arrange for the relocation and removal of utilities to accommodate project-related construction activities.
Provide assistance to answer questions from and advise Roadway Designers in utility relocation work.
Attend plan‑in‑hand inspections of proposed highway construction projects to determine if any utilities, such as natural gas pipelines, telephone poles, or power poles, need to be relocated prior to construction.
Identify and contact utility owners affected by highway construction projects to explain project plans, right‑of‑way, and agreements, and to answer any questions the companies may have.
Negotiate and prepare formal agreements related to utility relocation between NDOT and the utility owners.
Provide technical assistance to utility companies and municipalities to ensure conformity with NDOT policies, State Statutes, and Federal requirements used in preparing and submitting utility estimates and rehabilitation plans.
Review and make approval recommendations for utility relocation estimates, plans, and billings.
Attend and participate in pre‑construction conferences and utility coordination meetings on project design to answer questions and explain design plans.
Update the agency's computer systems with utility information for highway construction plans.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
A high school education or the equivalent AND education or experience in plan reading, highway construction, and utility relocation.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of engineering or roadway design experience with knowledge of utility relocation.
Experience in recognizing utility markings and identification of utilities in the field.
Experience in preparing and negotiating agreements.
Experience using MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, and CADD/MicroStation.
Other
Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
Regular & reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Effective communication skills are required to perform the essential functions of the job.
