Overview The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking team player to join us in our mission to enhance the quality of life for Nebraskans by building and maintaining a convenient, safe, and innovative statewide transportation system. Pay and Benefits Pay rate: $22.756 per hour.

Base pay range (State of Nebraska): $20,000.00/yr - $20,000.00/yr

Added pay differentials for CDL duties: $1/hour after 1 year, $1/hour after 3 years, $1/hour after 5 years of continuous service

Job Duties

Perform highly skilled and complex diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of multiple makes and models of heavy-duty trucks, road construction and maintenance equipment, and other motorized equipment with computerized systems.

Fabricate and repair equipment and parts using welding, and adapt parts as needed.

Calibrate systems on heavy-duty vehicles to ensure safety and efficiency.

Inspect new equipment for specifications and prepare it to be road-ready.

Evaluate equipment to identify adjustments needed for auxiliary attachments and operating systems.

Install, troubleshoot, repair, and replace mechanical, electrical, computer, and hydraulic system components to restore safe operation.

Maintain hydraulics and electrical systems; repair steering, suspension, brakes, drive trains, fuel systems, and engines.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Practical work experience performing automotive/diesel maintenance and repair, including use of computerized diagnostic instruments and equipment OR post-high school vocational or technical coursework in automotive/diesel mechanics with training in computerized diagnostics and repair practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

A degree in Automotive Diesel Mechanics, with experience in repairing trucks or heavy equipment; welding and fabrication experience; basic computer skills; possession of or ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days of hire (in-house CDL training program; costs covered by department).

Other:

Must be able to report to work outside scheduled hours for snow and highway emergencies.
