DSHS’s Home & Community Living Administration (HCLA) WCF is hiring key team members now to assist as we move toward the full implementation of the program. Beginning in 2026, the innovative work that you do now will aid qualified people and their authorized representatives to apply for and access their earned benefits that help pay for daily‑living activities. We are hiring an

IT System Administrator

in Tumwater, WA, supporting the Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration (FTAA). In this role, you will provide critical system administration, technical services, and customer support to field staff across FTAA and HCLA. You will manage Local Area Networks (LAN), cloud and print services, mobile devices, and tier‑two application support while delivering training and guidance to staff.

Your work will directly support Case Managers, Social Workers, Nurses, Psychologists, Attorneys, administrative personnel, and Executive Management, enabling them to deliver essential services that transform lives throughout Washington State.

Responsibilities

Design, configure, and maintain regional and cloud‑based network infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, and related equipment.

Administer and monitor LAN/WAN systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.

Implement and manage data backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes for on‑premises and cloud systems.

Deploy and manage workstation hardware, mobile devices, and operating system images using Microsoft Configuration Manager, Intune, and related tools.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and network issues using advanced diagnostic tools and scripting.

Configure and manage access permissions, shared resources, and network storage in compliance with security standards.

Support and maintain managed print, fax, and conferencing systems across regional offices.

Provide technical training, mentoring, and end‑user support to enhance staff productivity and technology proficiency.

Analyze business needs and recommend technology solutions that leverage cloud platforms like Azure, Teams, Power Apps, and SharePoint.

Consult with management on IT infrastructure improvements, system upgrades, and technology planning to support agency operations.

Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities

Knowledge of systems operations, cloud computing, network infrastructure, and IT hardware/software, including servers, switches, and end‑user devices.

Skilled in managing complex IT projects, from planning and implementation to evaluation and improvement.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities to assess issues and develop effective technical solutions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.

Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across programs, departments, and agencies.

Adaptable and organized, able to manage shifting priorities and multiple tasks in fast‑paced environments.

Demonstrated sound judgment, decision‑making, and conflict resolution skills.

Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and dependable, with a commitment to accuracy, reliability, and compliance with agency standards.

Who should apply?

A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a closely related field and at least four (4) years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

Consulting, analyzing, designing, or programming

Installing or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure

Directing projects, providing technical or customer support in IT

Administering or supervising staff performing IT‑related work

An Associate’s degree in computer science (including coursework in programming, networking, and system administration) and at least six (6) years of IT experience in any of the areas listed above.

At least eight (8) years of IT experience in any of the areas listed above.

Work schedule: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
