TITLE:
Bus Driver (40/40, Full Year) - Transportation
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, operates a school bus in transporting children to and from schools. Employees in this class are responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe and efficient operation of a school bus. Operates a school bus obeying all applicable federal, state, and local traffic laws and the enforcement of Portland Public Schools Student Bus Conduct Code. Inspects, performs minor maintenance, and cleans assigned vehicle.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: High School or GED diploma required Two to four years of driving experience; prior experience as a school bus driver preferred Successful experience interacting with children Twenty-one (21) years of age, and having held operator's license for three years Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to meet prescribed pre-employment and annual physical examination requirements Ability to complete pre- and post-trip bus inspections Ability to lift heavy objects 50 lb minimum Must be able to sit for long period of time in the bus driver's seat, reach the steering wheel and pedals, and wear the seat belt properly every day SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Must pass USDOT pre-employment physical examination, criminal background check, and drug and alcohol testing. Must be able to work overtime to complete required bus routes/trips Must possess no more than two current points on the driving record and a satisfactory past driving record Must furnish a driving record of the previous three (3) years free of the following:
No convictions for a felony No convictions for operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs No more than two moving violations in the past twenty-four (24) months
Must pass a supervised road test Must provide two (2) personal references
CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License, with P and S endorsements and no air brake restrictions [Highly preferred] Certification in First aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedures
