This Transportation Engineer V serves as a senior‑level engineer responsible for leading complex transportation projects, managing multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves strategic planning, technical oversight, and coordination across departments and external stakeholders.
Base pay range $115,000.00/yr – $145,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning, design, and execution of major transportation infrastructure projects.
Oversee roadway design, traffic engineering, corridor modeling, and safety improvements.
Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
Technical Oversight
Review and approve engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Ensure compliance with GDOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and environmental regulations.
Provide technical guidance on pavement design, drainage systems, utility coordination, and erosion control.
Team & Stakeholder Coordination
Supervise junior engineers and consultants.
Coordinate with local governments, MPOs, and federal agencies.
Represent the department in public meetings and technical committees.
Quality Assurance & Innovation
Conduct QA/QC reviews and implement process improvements.
Utilize advanced engineering software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
Stay current with emerging transportation technologies and practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Minimum 8-10 years of transportation engineering experience
Strong knowledge of GDOT Plan Development Process (PDP)
Proficiency in project management and engineering software
Excellent communication and leadership skills
