JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director or designee, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all participants are provided with activities that promote the social, cultural, educational, physical, and leadership potential of the child. All aquatic facilities will be kept safe and clean, staffed by certified employees who reflect and support the Mission of Old Colony Y. The coordinator will uphold the employee code of conduct and ensure all job duties reflect the mission of Old Colony Y and the regulating agency. The coordinator will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect in all job duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure that Old Colony Y Swim Testing/Test. Mark. Protect. Standards are upheld at all operating hours.

Lead a staff of certified, diligent and professional lifeguards who display optimal guarding during our facilities regular “5-minute quick check” observations.

Ensure lifeguard in‑services are performed in a manner that allows staff to feel confident and rescue ready in their abilities to prevent and react to aquatic emergencies.

Serve as a contributing member of the Old Colony Y Aquatics Team.

Use Old Colony Y marketing materials to engage the community around water safety, Aquatics fun, and swim lesson/program opportunities at the Y.

Ensure supervision of swim area, and swimmers at all times.

Submit all in‑service records, swim testing, incident reporting, Emergency action plan documentation and Ellis administrative materials to the Aquatics teams drive completed and on time.

Ensure communication with supervisor and the greater branch team around all aquatic happenings.

Keep all Coast Guard approved lifejackets/PFD, Safety Equipment, Water Fitness equipment, Water/Family toys, and Swim Lesson aids in adequate condition and quantity for participant use.

Lifeguard as needed.

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL

Recruit, hire, train, mentor and evaluate aquatic staff to ensure professional progression and attainment of higher level certifications whenever possible.

While guarding, serve as a role model to staff, ensuring all items in the lifeguard job description are met.

Assign and post staff schedules ensuring adequate coverage of the pool or waterfront at all times of operation.

Ensure that all certifications and in‑service training requirements are up to date for all staff and documentation is properly filed.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES N/A

FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure all equipment playing a role in the branch/camp emergency action plan and general first aid are well‑stocked, checked regularly/as required and note any areas of improvement to discuss with the greater branch team.

Work with (or individually possess) the branch CPO to ensure clean, safe and well organized pump room, chemical storage, and water quality/pool maintenance.

Properly open and close pool as scheduled following the Association opening and closing checklists.

Ensure security and safety of pool area, never leaving area unattended or unlocked, check all doors and windows.

Ensure cleanliness of pool/waterfront areas daily, hosing deck, brushing down walls, cleaning staff office, putting equipment away in storage closet neatly, inspecting pool area and reporting all problems in writing to supervisor. Assign various jobs to staff and post.

REQUIREMENTS

Team Leader Certification from Y-USA (or be actively working towards).

Must acquire and maintain certification with the following and within required timelines: Ellis LG & LGI, American Red Cross WSI or WSIT, Vanguard Aquatics Supervisor Training.

Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience, supervisory experience preferred.

Must be physically able to teach aquatic lessons and lift an adult male from the pool to the pool deck.

Complete program specific and employee orientation training by required timeline.
