Assistant Professor of Anthropology Enter into a tenure‑track assistant professor position in the Department of Anthropology, College of Arts and Sciences, The Ohio State University. The position is based in Columbus, Ohio and will begin in the fall of 2026.

Position Overview The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a role that builds on the department’s strength in skeletal biology.

Successful applicants will have research and teaching interests in at least one of the following areas: functional anatomy, primate evolution, paleoanthropology, dental anthropology, forensic anthropology, and bioarchaeology.

Preferred candidates demonstrate the potential for a sustained and substantial body of empirical work focusing on their chosen area.

Responsibilities

Maintain a productive research program, publishing in respected journals and pursuing external funding through competitive grants.

Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in biology and anthropology, and mentor students at both levels.

Contribute to departmental and university operations as an engaged citizen.

Provide service to the discipline through committee work, editorial boards, and outreach activities.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related field.

Ongoing or developing program of research with evidence of potential or experience in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses.

Published record in highly respected journals, edited volumes, or other strong scholarly outlets.

Experience applying for and securing external research grants.

Demonstrated service to the university, department, and discipline.

Evidence of mentoring students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Desired Qualifications

Strengthening research and teaching collaborations with colleagues within and beyond the department, including the College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, and Department of Ecology and Organismal Biology.

Ability to teach graduate‑level statistics.

Potential to make a significant positive impact on the field of biological anthropology.
