Position R&D Senior Electrical Engineer – ABB NEMA Motors Division

Reports to: Director of Research & Development

Your role and responsibilities

Contribute significantly to technology and product development and support of existing electric motors, performing detailed cost‑benefit analyses for design optimization.

Create electrical designs for industrial motors per internal specifications and industry standards across fractional to integral horsepower ranges, with a focus on AC induction motor design methodology, modeling techniques, test standards, and analysis of motor test data.

Leverage motor design expertise to deliver innovative and creative ideas to complex R&D assignments, ensuring appropriate protection of newly created intellectual property.

Act as project leader or senior project member, providing experience in the execution and use of supporting engineering tools, processes, and methods.

Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain on product specification, application assistance, regulatory or certification requirements and processes while sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues to ensure timely and high‑quality results.

Qualifications for the role Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 12 years of experience with electric motors, including at least 5 years in AC induction motors.

Knowledge of electric motor technologies, advanced design methodologies (FEA), manufacturing processes, and customer support experience.

Working knowledge of UL, CSA, CE, IEEE, IEC, and NEMA regulatory compliance.

Preferred experience includes Lean Six Sigma or PMP certifications, a Master’s Degree in Engineering, SAP, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks.

Candidates must already have work authorization that permits them to work for ABB in the United States.
