Environmental Monitoring Specialist I (OPEN) Filing of Application

Salary:

prevailing salary established by the City of Cleveland is $15.33 – $29.65 per hour.

Examination Information Experience evaluation:

A quantitative evaluation of an applicant’s academic training and experience pertinent to the classification. Entry‑level position working in the air monitoring section.

Responsibilities

Use air sampling equipment to collect particulate samples according to prescribed methods and compile data from a variety of sources (e.g., strip, chart, continuous air analysis equipment, high‑volume air sampling filters, etc.).

Measure ambient and stack concentration of pollutants (e.g., carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, etc.).

Verify the validity of collected data.

Prepare air quality indexes and source test reports.

Perform other job‑related duties as required.

Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geology, Engineering, Mathematics, or any other science‑related field from an accredited college or university is required; a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

Must possess a basic knowledge of air pollution as it relates to air monitoring. Valid State of Ohio driver’s license required.

Residency Credit Individuals who have had their primary residence in the City of Cleveland for at least one year at the time of filing an application are eligible for a ten‑point credit, if a passing grade on the written examination is attained.
