Based in Park City, UT, Triumph Geared Solutions is a leading independent aerospace gear and gear box supplier for the commercial and military helicopter and business jet markets and employs approximately 200 employees. The Company’s key products and services include power transmission systems, integrated gearbox design and builds, airframe mounted accessory drives (AMAD’s), engine mounted accessory drives (EMAD’s), rotorcraft transmissions, turboshaft internal gearboxes, emergency power gearboxes, and large complex aero gears for both OE and aftermarket/spares end markets.

Park City, UT lies east of Salt Lake City in the western state of Utah. Framed by the craggy Wasatch Range, it’s bordered by the Deer Valley Resort and the huge Park City Mountain Resort, both known for their ski slopes.

Overview We are currently seeking a

Mechanical Test Engineer

for our Park City, UT location. The Mechanical Test Engineer is a member of the Gear Systems Test Group and is the primary contributor to the analysis, design, and development of complex equipment used in testing aerospace gearboxes and actuators, including testing and report creation.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, validate, and verify mechanical test equipment that meets customer expectations. Work closely with Design Engineering to ensure test systems meet contract specifications, statement of work, and other requirements. Designs to include schematics, CAD modeling, tolerance analysis, stress analysis, assembly planning, and Bill of Materials management.

Design fluid power systems to test production parts.

Perform testing and create test reports.

Work with technicians for setup, troubleshooting, repair, upgrade, and assistance with maintenance services in support of engineering and manufacturing test equipment.

Write test plans, procedures, and reports based on industry test standards per customer requirements and applicable specifications to perform structural, environmental, and performance tests.

Generate support documentation of test stands including functional diagrams, specifications, performance capability, troubleshooting guidelines, and maintenance plans.

Conduct design reviews and test readiness reviews with internal and external customers.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field with eight years’ experience in aircraft mechanical component system testing.

Experience in the direct design of test stands, rotating machinery, and fluid power for qualification testing.

Knowledge of safety guidelines related to test stand design and operation.

Understanding of environmental qualification standards such as DO160, MIL-STD-810 or EUROCAE ED-14 is preferred.

Demonstrated experience with CAD software.

Experience using industry drafting and design standards, including the latest ASME Y14.5 Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

Analytical experience to determine static and dynamic stresses.

Familiarity with gauge and understanding of range and accuracy.

Proficiency in written and verbal communication with experience authoring test procedures and reports and working with internal and external customers to verify that design, procedures, and reports meet program requirements.

Work effectively in a team environment and maintain flexibility to take on tasks outside direct responsibility.

Demonstrated ability to manage and support project engineering and project schedules.

Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and the drive to follow a task to a successful outcome, with attention to detail and self‑management discipline.
