General Purpose The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. You will greet customers warmly, treat fellow associates with respect, follow all company best‑practice standards, maintain a clean work area, and ensure proper merchandise presentation. You will perform a range of functions in all areas of the store as business needs require, and may be asked to perform additional tasks when necessary.

Essential Functions

Prioritize safety and practice safe behaviors in all tasks.

Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment.

Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; remain friendly and professional at all times.

Assist customers at the register, answer questions, and greet them with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly “hello” and “thank you.”

Respond promptly to customer-service calls and handle issues courteously, calling leadership when needed.

Support and represent the Ross brand at all times.

Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, disinfecting high‑touch areas).

Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.

Perform daily assigned sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and merchandise‑organized.

Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandising items per company best practice and presentation guidelines.

Understand Loss Prevention awareness, the Shortage Highway, and store protection standards.

Guard confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise with integrity and honesty.

Familiarize with Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock policies and properly process disposals.

Follow cash, checkout, and refund procedures while remaining accurate.

Execute store best practices efficiently, minimizing steps and touches in your work flow.

Qualifications & Special Skills Required

Communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, and pleasant manner.

Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail.

Physical Requirements / ADA

Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.

Spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.

Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.

Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.

Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.

Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 pounds.

Supervisory Responsibilities None.

Base Pay The base pay range for this role is $17.95 – $18.45 per hour. The range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, and location. This is one component of the total compensation package, and other rewards vary by position and location.
