Job Summary/Basic Function The CTE Program Director supports Boise State's Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher preparation pipeline, strengthening the next generation of Idaho educators by designing and implementing new certification programs from the ground up. The director serves as the primary conduit between high school Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), state agencies, and the university, forging critical partnerships across the state. This position is responsible for building clear recruitment pathways that guide students from high school into university teacher preparation programs and aligning these new programs with Idaho's workforce needs. The director will lead targeted recruitment and advising efforts, with a special focus on engaging students from rural communities, to grow enrollment and create a sustainable CTE educator workforce for Idaho.

Level Scope Manages a program, regardless of size, that has critical impact upon the campus. Significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and programs, manages significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. Frequently influences business decisions made by senior leadership. Oversees through subordinate Managers the accountability and stewardship of campus resources and the development of systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Negotiates and influences others to understand and accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.

Essential Functions

Leads the development and implementation of new, responsive Career Technical Education (CTE) educator preparation and certification programs at Boise State, ensuring alignment with state accreditation standards.

Creates and manages clear recruitment pathways for high school students to transition smoothly into Boise State's CTE teacher certification programs. Conducts outreach visits to Region 3 high schools to promote teaching as a career.

Serves as the primary conduit and liaison between high school Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), the Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (IDCTE), and Boise State's College of Education leadership and faculty.

Provides direct guidance and academic advising to prospective high school students on pathways that lead to CTE teacher certification.

Tracks, monitors, and reports on student data, including inquiries, applications, enrollment, retention, completion, and post-graduation placement to assess the effectiveness of recruitment strategies and meet all reporting requirements.

Convenes regular meetings with high school CTE educators and College of Education faculty and staff to discuss curriculum alignment and the development of new teacher preparation pathways.

Facilitates collaboration among existing university faculty and adjunct instructors to support the instructional design and delivery of coursework for the new CTE programs.

Develops and disseminates targeted recruitment materials for high school students interested in becoming CTE educators.

Manages program logistics, including supporting CTSO-related activities for teacher candidates and pursuing grant writing opportunities to sustain the programs.

Works with the Associate Dean for Educator Preparation to ensure all program activities are completed and performance-based outcomes are met.

May perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong track record of building and managing strategic partnerships with state agencies, industry leaders, and educational institutions.

Demonstrated success in academic program development and curriculum alignment.

Proven experience in student recruitment and targeted outreach, particularly with student populations from rural areas.

Direct experience working with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) and deep knowledge of their content areas and their potential for teacher pipeline development.

Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to monitor program effectiveness, make enrollment forecasts, and inform continuous improvement.

Experience in grant writing and annual reporting tied to key measures and outcomes.

Knowledge of or experience in higher education administration, including academic advising practices and working with university programs.

Ability to professionally present, market, and promote academic programs to various stakeholders, including students, parents, and educators.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of experience or equivalent, including 5 years of managerial experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years CTE teaching experience or equivalent.

Formal work experience in rural school districts and CTE programs.

Salary and Benefits Salary range is $80,828.80 - $97,000 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
