Clinical Laboratory Technician 1, HMC Specimen Procurement $3,000 sign‑on bonus available for eligible new employees joining the UW Medicine team.

Job Description Are you passionate about science and ready to make a real impact on patient care? As a CLT 1, you will play a vital role in the diagnostic process of laboratory testing. Whether you are processing and preparing specimens for testing, performing blood draws on patients, or providing excellent customer service, you are influencing the timely and accurate diagnosis of patients at UW Medicine and beyond. Night shift

What You’ll Contribute

Perform Specimen Process Activities

– Performing specimen processing tasks such as receiving, sorting, prioritizing specimens, matching with requisitions, centrifuging and aliquoting, processing timed urine collections, reviewing entries for all reference lab testing, performing blood draws and various computer functions.

Perform Customer Service

– Responding promptly, courteously, and professionally to inquiries from patients, clients, and hospital and laboratory staff.

Share Your Knowledge

– Orienting and training new employees, participating in performance improvement activities and supporting the hospital in meeting JCAHO, CLIA, and CAP accreditation standards.

Utilize Problem‑Solving Skills

– Resolving specimen and order‑related problems in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner and providing appropriate documentation for supervisor review.

What You’ll Need

High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience

OR completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology

OR equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when legal requirements exist

Additional DLMP Requirement

Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist (MA‑P) certification with the Washington State Department of Health OR obtain the MA‑P certification within 180 days of start date.

Desired Qualifications

Associate or bachelor’s degree in science

Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory

Experience with a Laboratory Information System (LIS)
