Position Summary The Executive Director of a TRIO program should have strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as a deep commitment to supporting underserved and underrepresented populations in their pursuit of higher education. Familiarity with federal TRIO regulations and previous experience in educational administration and program management is often required for this role.

Responsibilities

Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the TRIO program, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and guidelines.

Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to efficiently and effectively deliver program services.

Develop, manage, and monitor the program budget, including allocation of funds for various program components and services.

Recruit, hire, train, and supervise program staff, including advisors and support personnel.

Provide professional development opportunities for program staff to enhance their effectiveness.

Establish program goals, objectives, and performance metrics to assess the program's impact and outcomes.

Collect, analyze, and report data on program effectiveness to funding agencies and stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with federal reporting requirements, including the submission of annual performance reports and financial documentation.

Maintain accurate records and documentation to support program operations.

Coordinate a range of support services, such as academic advising, tutoring, career counseling, and personal development workshops, to help program participants succeed in their educational pursuits.

Develop and implement outreach strategies to identify and recruit eligible participants for the TRIO program.

Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to reach potential participants.

Collaborate with other university departments, local educational institutions, community agencies, and employers to expand resources and opportunities for program participants.

Maintain accurate and confidential records of program participants, tracking their progress and services received.

Serve as an advocate for program participants, helping them navigate the challenges they face in their pursuit of higher education and assisting with access to needed resources.

Seek additional funding opportunities, write grant proposals, and engage in fundraising efforts to secure additional resources for the program.

Promote the TRIO program to raise awareness and encourage participation among eligible individuals and the broader community.

Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment within the program that recognizes and respects the diversity of program participants.

Advocate for the program at the local, state, and national levels, emphasizing the importance of TRIO initiatives in supporting underrepresented students in higher education.

Safely transport students using university‑owned/rented vehicles to and from events, activities, and trips.

Ten percent of this position is funded by the University for focus on identifying funding opportunities, gathering necessary data and writing compelling grant proposals.

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education administration or a related field preferred.

Several years of progressively responsible experience in TRIO and other federal grants or student affairs or related roles required, including leadership and supervisory experience.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to student affairs and higher education.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and external partners.

Demonstrated commitment to student development, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Proficiency in using relevant technology and software for managing student services and data.

Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate large passenger vans (up to 15 passengers) in compliance with university and state safety regulations.

Multilingual skills highly preferred.

Ability to contribute to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first‑generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
