Northeast Woodland Chartered Public School was founded in 2020 as New England’s first Chartered Public Waldorf-Inspired K-8 School. As a charter school, Northeast Woodland not only follows a traditional Waldorf pedagogy, but also ensures that the curriculum taught meets NH Education standards. Additionally, Northeast Woodland leverages the world-renowned outdoor resources surrounding the campus and the local community to provide a unique Outdoor Education program for its students. Located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains and the Mount Washington Valley, students have numerous opportunities each year to engage in day and overnight trips as part of an outdoor curriculum that fosters a sense of self, place, and community. Since its founding, Northeast Woodland has grown in size and currently enrolls 176 students from Pre-K through 8th grade. Over the past 6 years, the school has worked to provide Waldorf Certification to its teachers, and currently, nearly 90% of lead teachers are either fully certified or nearing completion of their training. Northeast Woodland has a robust, engaged community of families committed to public access to Waldorf education. With a growing number of graduates as a testament to the school's success, Northeast Woodland prepares students for the rigors of high school while simultaneously fostering a desire to be motivated and engaged in their schools and communities. Position Summary
The Head of School serves as the educational and administrative leader of Northeast Woodland, a public charter school guided by the principles of Waldorf education. This role is responsible for ensuring the school’s mission, vision, and values are upheld through strong leadership, educational integrity, and compliance with state and charter school regulations. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, visionary leader with experience in Waldorf pedagogy, charter school management, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Ensure fidelity to Waldorf pedagogy and charter requirements. Guide curriculum, assessment, and student-centered instruction. Support teacher development and maintain a healthy school culture. Administrative & Operational Oversight
Oversee daily school operations, safety, enrollment, and compliance. Supervise budgeting, resource allocation, and federal/state accountability. Governance & Strategic Planning
Serve as liaison to the Board of Trustees; lead strategic planning and reporting. Align school goals with vision, mission, and community needs. Community Engagement & Communication
Serve as public representative and chief communicator. Build transparent relationships with families, staff, and the broader community. Participate in planning and executing annual and capital fundraising tasks. Compliance & Reporting
Ensure timely, accurate state/federal reporting (DoE, ESSA, Title I, SPED). Supervise data system maintenance (ALMA, i4C, SIS); lead audits, calendar management, and report delegation. Supervise reporting for special programs and financial transparency. Human Resources & Staff Development
Oversee hiring, evaluations, legal compliance, and staff culture. Lead professional development planning and nurture leadership within staff. Ensure workplace equity, safety, and growth opportunities. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Master’s in Education, Leadership, or related field. School leadership/administrative experience. Deep understanding and support of Waldorf education, including a minimum of 5 years as a classroom teacher, preferably in grades 1st-8th. Strong budget, communication, and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications
Waldorf certification or leadership training. Experience in a Waldorf charter environment. Knowledge of special education, inclusive practices, and outdoor experiential education. Charter school law, compliance, and federal grant knowledge. Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range of $85,000 - $100,000 based on experience *NH has no income tax* Health insurance and retirement savings plan with 3% employer match 6 weeks paid time off (vacation, school breaks, holidays) Paid sick time Paid professional development opportunities Partial tuition remission for preschool & out of state dependents How to Apply
