About Marin Waldorf School Since 1973, Marin Waldorf School has cultivated resilient, confident, authentic humans with deep self-knowledge and the tools to meet the future and make positive change in the world. Led by a dedicated faculty and administration, our vibrant, experiential, and interdisciplinary curriculum blends math, sciences, art, music, performance, healthy movement, language arts, a dual world language program, and outdoor education. Located on a beautiful 10-acre campus on ancestral Miwok land in Lucas Valley, we are an early childhood through 8th grade school with a total enrollment of 160 students and an operating budget of $4.5m. We are the only accredited Waldorf school in Marin County, California.

Position Description Marin Waldorf School seeks a School Director to begin in the late spring or early summer of 2026, in preparation for the start of the 2026-27 school year. The School Director is responsible for the overall operational management and vision of the school. This includes the development and delivery of the school’s program consistent with our mission, philosophy, and goals, overseeing the school’s business operations and financial health, and assuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Marin Waldorf School has a collaborative leadership model characterized by transparent, mission-driven partnerships among the School Director, Board of Trustees, and the College of Teachers. The School Director will work in collaboration with the College of Teachers to ensure robust classrooms and educational programs that meet today’s students and families while also working in partnership with the Board of Trustees to develop a business strategy that harmonizes a commitment to Waldorf education, demographic trends, and fiscal realities in a highly competitive landscape.

Cultivate a shared strategic vision, igniting collective enthusiasm and commitment to the school’s future path.

Build trust in the school’s approach to academics, behavior, and social/emotional health issues by developing strong relationships with all members of the community and understanding and responding to their concerns.

Model, manage, and foster a work environment rooted in collaboration, respect, and professional growth.

Create a pathway to long-term financial stability with detailed planning for more robust revenue streams and thoughtful review and management of expenditures.

Simplify daily operations by clarifying roles and responsibilities and improving administrative systems and processes.

Implement the pedagogical vision of the College of Teachers to ensure the curriculum is rooted in Waldorf pedagogy while also evolving to meet the needs of current students and their families.

Collaborate with the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging Committee to ensure that these values are authentically woven into faculty recruitment, student enrollment, curriculum design, and institutional culture.

Navigate the relationship with the Miller Creek School District to maintain and improve leased school grounds.

Be present, visible, and available on a daily basis at the school.

Compensation

Annual salary of $130,000-$180,000 (dependent on experience)

The Search Committee plans to identify a preliminary group of candidates to interview in February. From this group the Search Committee will select finalists for interviews in March. The Board expects to reach a decision shortly after finalist visits with the new School Director to begin in late spring, if possible, in order to overlap with the outgoing School Director.
