SUMMARY OF POSITION The Marketing and Communications Manager assists with the school’s development initiatives and implements all communications initiatives. Responsibilities include planning and executing activities that enhance the visibility and public perception of the school and contribute to increased fundraising capacity. The Marketing and Communications Manager reports directly to the Director of Advancement and Communications and works closely with all administrative staff including the President, Head of School, Chief Development Officer and Admissions Director. This is a 12‑month, full‑time position. Salary range: $50,000 – $60,000 depending on level of experience.

Specific responsibilities include Communications

Coordinate, design, write, and/or edit a wide range of internal and external communications that support City Academy’s marketing and development goals. This includes newsletters, press releases, advertising, videos (including live streams), a monthly donor e-newsletter, a weekly parent e-newsletter, blogs, promotional items, stationary, banners, brochures, programs, invitations, letterhead, holiday cards, and the annual Impact Report. This also includes needs for admissions and alumni programming.

Develop and post all social media content.

Maintain and update the City Academy website.

Work closely with faculty, administrators, students, parents, alumni, and volunteers to capture compelling stories, photographs, and video footage that highlight the school’s unique features and strengths for use in both print and web copy.

Create opportunities for City Academy’s stories to be published by writing press releases, creating marketing materials, and building relationships with media constituents.

Supervise Social Media and Communications Intern.

Archive all print communications, marketing materials, celebratory events and social media content on a regular basis.

Provide marketing support for events and all departments to ensure consistent branding and messaging.

Design invitations, programs, flyers and award certificates.

Development Office Infrastructure

Enthusiastically support the school, its mission, leadership and policies.

Work within a budget.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Assist the development team in achieving fundraising goals.

Assist with all events organized by the development team.

QUALIFICATIONS

The position demands a commitment to the values and mission of the organization and ability to communicate an inspired vision or sense of core purpose.

Undergraduate degree in related field (journalism, marketing, communications, etc.) preferred.

3+ years of experience in marketing, communications, graphic design or related areas, with an understanding for fundraising and non-profit organizations.

Exceptional relationship building and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with the public, community leaders, donors, board of trustees, media, staff and faculty members.

Strong written, communication and interpersonal skills, innovative thinking and creative writing.

Robust knowledge of social media best practices and strategies for communicating our impact.

Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Mailchimp (or similar email marketing tools), Canva (or InDesign) basic HTML and WordPress content management system (or similar website management programs) is beneficial.

Strong photography, videography, and design skills.

Candidates must understand and appreciate the challenges of working in a small office and be able to work independently.
