The Opportunity The Engineering & Energy business units of Munich Re F&C provide custom insurance solutions to the power, energy, and construction industries. This position, based in New York, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, or Atlanta, involves underwriting power generation, renewable energy, energy (down/midstream and specialty chemical), and construction placements.
Responsibilities
Underwrite traditional engineering (power‑gen, renewable energy, construction) and energy (down/midstream, specialty chemical) business per risk appetite in collaboration with brokers, risk purchasing groups, and captives.
Act as the primary underwriter for engineering and energy allocated business.
Refer underwriting cases as needed following company guidelines and mandates.
Use pricing and layering models, and the Munich Re rating system.
Support changes to the Engineering & Energy Underwriting Guidelines.
Adhere to the referral audit process and risk‑selection and pricing techniques.
Develop and support new products and filings to meet client needs.
Enhance policy forms, rating tools, and evaluate distribution channel choices.
Provide energy‑insurance underwriting expertise and input to distribution channels and client groups.
Negotiate contract terms with brokers/clients and submit counter‑proposals when appropriate.
Analyze and evaluate distribution of limits, attachment points, and layers to maximize profitability.
Track and monitor assigned accounts, keeping current on industry loss trends and collaborating with the Claims department.
Marketing
Maintain client relationships and stay abreast of market developments.
Provide MRF&C products and services to maximize business opportunities.
Promote MRF&C Engineering & Energy capabilities.
Seminars and Media
Participate as a speaker or trainer at energy industry seminars/workshops.
Organize and support MRF&C Property Engineering & Energy technical seminars.
Contribute to technical journals.
Participation on Technical Market Committees
Represent on technical insurance market committees, providing input and sourcing market knowledge.
Assist the Manager, Property Engineering & Energy as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, preference for a technical field such as engineering.
Seven or more years practical experience in power‑gen and energy industries.
Knowledge of internal processing procedures and systems.
Strong negotiation and relationship‑marketing skills.
Excellent computer, verbal, and written communication skills.
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
Management and leadership skills.
Salary and Benefits Base salary range: $135,600 – $226,100, plus an opportunity for company bonuses. The offer is adjusted per geography.
