Controls Design Engineer III – Sunbelt Controls Join the Sunbelt Controls team as a Controls Design Engineer III.

Job Summary The position requires extensive technical knowledge to produce controls project design, material selection, and sequence of operation for all assigned projects. Responsibilities include creating closeout documents, using AutoCAD, VISIO, EDS, collaborating with project managers and engineers, supporting pre‑sales activities, mentoring junior engineers, and driving large‑scale projects in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Functions

Lead design engineer for controls systems design drawings, sequences of operations, and submittals for large and complex control systems.

Research and select control system peripherals.

Read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications, ensuring design compliance.

Collaborate with the project team to identify additional options (e.g., Energy Efficiency, Equipment Interface, Value Engineering).

Advise Project Manager/Engineer on control application strategy and available options.

Modify existing controls designs to reflect field changes (as‑built).

Generate Operation & Maintenance manuals at project close.

Manage time and cost budgets for assigned tasks.

Provide pre‑sales technical support and cost estimating input.

Offer design solutions to field technicians and system software engineers to resolve field issues.

Communicate effectively with all project team members regarding problems, obstacles, and information needs.

Submit daily/weekly summary reports and time sheets.

Practice safe work habits and participate in office safety programs, including OSHA 10/30 training.

Attend training and development plans as assigned.

Coach, mentor, and develop junior design engineers.

Support Technical Services Manager with internal administrative activities.

Education & Experience

Associates degree in a technical field or 6‑10 years of related experience in building automation systems; Bachelor’s preferred.

Strong mechanical aptitude and thorough understanding of controls systems.

Extensive knowledge of ALC product line and other vendor products, systems, and protocols.

Ability to read construction blueprints and electrical schematics.

Strong working knowledge of MS Office, Windows, File Structure, AutoCAD, VISIO.

Experience with TCP/IP network structure and web navigation.

Highly organized, capable of prioritizing tasks and working in a high‑paced environment.

Independent and autonomous with ownership of assigned tasks.

Valid California driver’s license.

Ability to delegate tasks and assign resources appropriately.

Physical Requirements

Regular sitting, standing, hand use for keyboard and telephone, speaking, hearing.

Competitive Wages $96,000 to $122,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location.
