Position Overview The organization seeks a strategic, results-driven, donor-facing
Director of Development
to lead all fundraising efforts. This individual will serve as a key public representative of the organization, responsible for cultivating and securing financial support from major donors, foundations, and corporations. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and ambitious leader with a strong background in major gifts, corporate partnerships, and nonprofit fundraising strategy. This is an opportunity for a dynamic fundraiser to take ownership of the organization’s philanthropic growth and significantly expand its donor base and visibility.
This hybrid role (3 days in-office) is ideal for a proactive, proven leader who is ready to create and execute a comprehensive development strategy. Will identify, build and steward relationships with current and prospective supporters and represent the organization at key events and donor meetings. This is a high‑visibility leadership role reporting directly to the CEO, managing a development team of four and working cross‑functionally with marketing, programs, and revenue enablement leaders to drive donor engagement and revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
Design and lead a comprehensive, metrics‑driven annual Development Plan and calendar aligned with revenue goals.
Cultivate and grow a portfolio mid‑level and major gift donors, including individuals and family foundations.
Lead strategy and outreach to identify and secure high‑value corporate partnerships.
Oversee all government and foundation fundraising efforts, including proposal development and grant reporting.
Drive sponsorship and donor engagement annual galas and other major events.
Build and maintain a robust pipeline of new donor prospects while stewarding long‑term supporters.
Partner with marketing, revenue enablement and program management teams to ensure donor communications are consistent, on‑brand, and mission‑aligned.
Support recurring, year‑end and other donor acquisition and outreach campaigns.
Collaborate with and mentor Board members and other volunteers to support fundraising initiatives and ambassador engagement.
Represent the organization at key events, conferences, donor meetings, and community functions.
Lead and mentor four‑person development team; establish KPIs and performance tracking.
Maintain accurate donor records and reporting systems (Salesforce and related platforms).
Specific Experience
Minimum of 10 years’ work experience, with at least 7 years of relatable non‑profit experience (experience in child welfare, underserved youth and international development strongly preferred).
Proven track record of cultivating and securing major gifts, grants, and corporate partnerships/sponsorships.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain high‑level relationships with donors, board members, and stakeholders.
Strong aptitude for networking and relationship‑building, particularly with Board members, major donors, and high‑value prospects.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; persuasive public speaker and compelling storyteller.
Adept at working collaboratively across departments and offices and with external partners, including volunteers.
Highly organized, project management, and time‑management abilities; comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Resourceful, hands‑on, and solutions‑oriented approach to fundraising and leadership.
Demonstrated managerial experience, with the ability to set and manage key performance indicators for team members. History of achieving performance goals.
Technologically proficient: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Canva, Salesforce, Account Engagement (Pardot), Qgiv, and peer‑to‑peer fundraising platforms (experience with Photoshop and Visio a plus).
Compensation Range Commensurate with experience and historical earnings.
Location Culver City, CA – Must be commutable.
