Database Administrator (contract)
– Xcel Energy Join Xcel Energy’s Operational Technology (OT) Database Administration Team in downtown Minneapolis where you’ll manage Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB databases that support critical infrastructure systems such as SCADA, Distribution, Transmission, and Nuclear operations. This role offers a hybrid work environment and the opportunity to work on mission‑critical energy systems that serve millions of customers. Responsibilities
Administer and maintain Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB databases across test, development, and production environments. Perform database builds, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations. Manage backup and recovery processes to ensure business continuity and data integrity. Conduct performance tuning and optimization to maintain database health and efficiency. Develop and maintain automation scripts using KornShell (Unix/Linux) and PowerShell (Windows). Monitor database environments, proactively identify issues, and resolve incidents using ServiceNow. Collaborate with application support teams, system administrators, and project stakeholders to support projects such as ADMS upgrades. Ensure compliance with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and cybersecurity best practices. Maintain documentation for all database environments, patches, and procedures. Participate in on‑call rotations (every 4 weeks) providing 24x7 database support when needed. Skills
Strong knowledge of database backup/recovery processes, performance tuning, patching, and builds. Hands‑on experience with scripting for automation (KornShell, PowerShell). Experience with ServiceNow or similar IT service management tools. Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills. Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team‑oriented, cross‑functional environment. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Computer Science, Business or a related field; or 8+ years of equivalent hands‑on experience. 5–7 years of professional experience as a Database Administrator supporting multiple platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MariaDB). Pay Rate Range
45–60 USD hourly Seniority level
