Full‑Time, 40 hour weekly position with the SD Human Services Center.
The South Dakota Human Services Center, a behavioral health hospital that provides services in adult acute psychiatric, psychiatric rehabilitation, substance use disorder treatment, geriatrics, and adolescent patients, located in Yankton, is seeking a board eligible/board certified Psychiatrist to serve the adolescent patients.
Duties include:
diagnosis of patients;
establishing and directing treatment plans for adolescent patients;
serving as a member of a treatment team which reviews and determines prescribed treatment;
prescribes medication for patients;
monitors therapeutic progress of patients;
instructing medical students in treatment methodology and evaluates their work;
provides consultations as requested.
Licenses and Certifications: Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Dakota.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Knowledge of:
methods and principles of medicine;
diagnosis, care and treatment of patients, including adolescents, with mental illness;
recent research and developments in psychiatry;
principles and procedures of in‑patient treatment;
psychiatric evaluation of patients;
psychotropic medications.
Ability to:
diagnose and classify mental disorders with established criteria as set forth in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual;
write psychiatric evaluation reports and discharge summaries;
prescribe appropriate medications and monitor results;
exchange ideas, information and opinions with others to formulate treatment plans;
work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues;
communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
