This is a Full‑Time 40‑Hour Weekly position with the SD Human Services Center. For more information on the SD Human Services Center, please visit https://dss.sd.gov.

The South Dakota Human Services Center, a behavioral health hospital providing services in adult acute psychiatric, psychiatric rehabilitation, substance use disorder treatment, geriatrics, and adolescent patients, is seeking a board‑eligible/board‑certified Psychiatrist to serve adolescent patients.

This position provides psychiatric support services for the evaluation, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of adolescents admitted to or residing within the Human Services Center.

Duties Include

diagnosis of patients;

establishing and directing treatment plans for adolescent patients;

serving as a member of a treatment team which reviews and determines prescribed treatment;

prescribing medication for patients;

monitoring therapeutic progress of patients;

instructing medical students in treatment methodology and evaluating their work;

providing consultations as requested.

Licenses And Certifications Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Dakota.

Knowledge Of The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

methods and principles of medicine;

diagnosis, care and treatment of patients, including adolescents, with mental illness;

recent research and developments in psychiatry;

principles and procedures of in‑patient treatment;

psychiatric evaluation of patients;

psychiatric medications.

Ability To

diagnose and classify mental disorders with established criteria as set forth in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual;

write psychiatric evaluation reports and discharge summaries;

prescribe appropriate medications and monitor results;

exchange ideas, information and opinions with others to formulate treatment plans;

work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues;

communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation, an abuse and neglect screening, and a drug screening. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of these screenings.
