Position delivers quality, accurate work while adhering to safety protocols and troubleshooting equipment. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.Essential FunctionsAdhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresExecute the fabrication, installation, replacement and repair of metal and steelPerform structural fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks involved in repair, remodeling, and new welding projectsFabricate, weld and repair fender wells for tractors, grates for manhole covers, and brackets for wall exhaust fans and burglar screensWeld and repair various types of equipment including trucks, mowers, TV carts, and steam and hot water pipesPerform custom fabrications using steel, stainless, aluminum, copper, and lead on shop machineryFabricate and install sheet metal associated with commercial gutters and downspouts on mobile classroomsAssist with relocating and anchoring MCRs and modifying and installing handrails for MCR decks and platformsFabricate and install roof flashings, gravel stops, fascia metal, conductor-heads, roof curbs vents, traffic control gates, guardrails, and security screensRepair cafeteria equipment, exhaust ducts, tray rails, and replace filters in kitchen hoodsRepair all play and sports equipment for the districtDeliver, set up, and perform annual safety inspections on portable wheelchair liftsInstall ventilation kits for art kilns, vent dryers, exhaust fans, and fabricate and install ductwork for HVAC equipmentOperate a Jet-Vac machine to keep all roof drain lines and catch basins flowing properlyPerform related work as assigned or requiredKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesKnowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirementsKnowledge and understanding of methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in welding and sheet metalKnowledge of various kinds of metal properties and gaugesKnowledge of all skilled trades areas, including but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, construction contract administration and building codesKnowledge and familiarity of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommendations, regulations, and work safety practicesSkilled in communication, both verbal and writtenAbility to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specificationsAbility to perform skilled work involving fabrication, welding, repairing, and replacing structural facilities including awnings, gates, and scoreboardsAbility to operate and maintain tools, materials, and equipmentAbility to take initiative and work independentlyAbility to solve problems by utilizing sound judgmentAbility to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of workAbility to obtain a variety of parts for various shops on a lathe and milling machineAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsStrong problem solving and critical thinking skillsOperating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databasesExcellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframesEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of five years of progressive experience in welding and sheet metal requiredHave a B-license to operate lift gate trucks requiredAWS Certified Welder Certification preferredEquivalent combination of education and experience# of Jobs 2.00 Salary: From 21.63 Teacher Scale N Minimum Educational Requirements HS diploma Term 12 Month Additional Job Information Special Requirements Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Work requires regular, and at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work Work regularly requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects and materials over 30 pounds Work rarely requires handling/working with biohazards Ability to stand for long periods of time Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions Work is generally in a noisy location and noise level in the work environment can be loud Ability to move to other work locations Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions Job Attachment View Attachment
