Labor and Employment Attorney - Syracuse, NY

A well-respected Syracuse law firm is seeking a Labor and Employment Attorney to join its growing practice. The ideal candidate will have experience representing employers, public entities, or management in labor relations, employment law compliance, and workplace litigation. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a collaborative team known for providing strategic counsel to employers across New York State.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the New York Bar in good standing
  • 2+ years of experience in labor and employment law, preferably representing employers or public sector clients
  • Strong understanding of federal and New York employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, NYSHRL, etc.)
  • Experience with collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, and administrative proceedings preferred
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and client service skills

Responsibilities

  • Advise employers, school districts, and municipalities on a wide range of labor and employment matters
  • Draft and review employment agreements, policies, and handbooks
  • Represent clients before administrative agencies such as the EEOC, NLRB, PERB, and NYSDHR
  • Handle employment litigation and arbitration, including discovery, depositions, and motion practice
  • Assist in collective bargaining negotiations and labor contract interpretation
  • Conduct workplace investigations and provide training on employment law compliance
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide strategic legal guidance and updates
  • Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on complex matters and firm initiatives
