Biology Faculty Position (Professor Role)
Position Code 01016-SW | Agency: J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College | Location: Richmond, VA | Salary: up to $80,000 (commensurate with education and experience). The position is exempt (FLSA) and is full‑time. Telework may be available as business needs change. The role requires full‑time responsibility for teaching and departmental service in the School of STEM.
Core Responsibilities
Teach Anatomy and Physiology and related biology courses for transfer and health science programs.
Develop, assess, and continuously improve curriculum and course materials in alignment with program and transfer requirements.
Foster an inclusive and equitable learning environment that promotes student success and persistence.
Utilize technology‑enhanced and active learning strategies.
Incorporate laboratory and simulation experiences that reinforce core biological concepts and technical skills.
Maintain accurate records, evaluate student performance, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Participate in departmental and college‑wide assessment, curriculum review, and professional development.
Engage in service to the college, student advising, and community or industry partnerships that support STEM education.
Perform other duties as assigned, including emergency support if called upon by state government.
KSA / Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, or a closely related field; or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in biology.
Demonstrated knowledge of biological principles with ability to teach Anatomy and Physiology and general biology courses.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience at the community college level, particularly in Anatomy and Physiology and other lab‑based courses.
Experience using diverse instructional strategies to engage students with varied academic backgrounds and learning styles.
Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction, including Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) and digital learning tools.
Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment that supports student achievement.
Commitment to the community college mission and fostering student learning, retention, and completion.
Experience with curriculum design, student learning outcomes assessment, and program improvement.
Familiarity with virtual or hybrid lab modalities and anatomy simulation tools.
Knowledge of health science and pre‑nursing program pathways and the role of A&P courses within them.
Commitment to professional development and evidence of collaboration on departmental or interdisciplinary initiatives.

Relocation or travel between campuses as needed; no required travel beyond state.
