Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. The role applies GameStop’s buy‑sell‑trade‑reservation business model, promotes a sales culture, and delivers outstanding guest service through professional conduct and a shared passion for gaming. Responsibilities include ensuring products are visible and accessible, building sales through knowledge sharing, maintaining a clean and organized store, and growing guest loyalty and repeat business. The position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide best‑in‑class guest service: greet guests promptly, address questions and concerns quickly, assist guests with their video gaming needs, inform guests of promotions, recommend additional items, apply all selling behaviors during every transaction and thank guests for shopping at GameStop, and prioritize guests over tasks.
Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
Process guest purchases/returns accurately using the POS computer system, ensuring top‑notch service.
Answer phone calls promptly, courteously, and professionally; when appropriate, escalate customer issues to the Store Manager.
Promote GameStop’s guest benefits such as the new title reservations program, trade‑in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations, training associates, and providing feedback.
Observe associate performance, provide timely feedback, and address unsatisfactory performance as directed.
Ensure associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training prior to opening or closing shifts.
Schedule associates, manage staffing levels, and ensure optimum guest service.
Approve payroll, manage paid time off, verify pay for time worked, and ensure accurate bank deposits.
Maintain store cleanliness, organize merchandise, and keep fixtures and equipment in proper working order.
Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.
Protect company assets through effective inventory control, loss prevention, and bank deposit procedures.
Support the store team in meeting or exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals and complete required administrative duties.
Perform inventory counts, restock merchandise, and ensure proper product placement on the sales floor.
Reconcile daily business transaction totals, prepare closeout paperwork, and ensure sufficient cash and change for sales transactions.
Verify shipments for discrepancies, communicate findings, and process defectives/recalls accurately.
Maintain safety awareness, identify hazards, and report injuries promptly.
Assist in maintaining store records/files and update manuals as needed.
Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence.
Adhere to GameStop policies, procedures, and the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
Follow opening and closing procedures.
Qualifications
Proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
Minimum age 18 years.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or a related field preferred.
At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, or management experience preferred.
Video game knowledge preferred.

Obtain and maintain understanding of military ranks and insignia for positions on military bases (if applicable).
