Part-Time Sports and Aquatics Coordinator

to support the safe and effective delivery of youth and adult sports and aquatics programs. This role is key to promoting the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility by ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive environment in both program areas.

The position requires flexible availability, including evenings and weekends, and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children, families, and the local community.

Aquatics

Assist in the daily operation of the aquatics center, including lifeguard coverage, swim lessons, and water fitness classes.

Monitor pool conditions and report any maintenance or chemical issues to appropriate staff.

Support the scheduling and supervision of part-time aquatics staff.

Ensure safety protocols, YMCA policies, and health standards are followed.

Assist with swim lesson instruction, water safety education, and occasional lifeguard training support.

Sports

Help coordinate youth and adult sports leagues, clinics, and recreational events.

Supervise sports sites during practices and games; ensure proper setup, operation, and takedown.

Enforce rules and promote positive sportsmanship among players, coaches, and spectators.

Support recruitment and training of volunteer coaches and referees.

Maintain equipment and report supply or equipment needs.

Shared Duties

Build positive, respectful relationships with participants, parents, and YMCA staff.

Respond promptly to incidents and complete necessary reports.

Uphold all YMCA policies, including emergency and safety procedures.

Represent the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility at all times.

Provide support for YMCA special events and seasonal programs as needed.

Any other assigned duties.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least 6 months experience in aquatics and/or sports programming.

Current Lifeguard Certification (YMCA, Red Cross, or equivalent) or ability to obtain within 30 days.

CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification (or obtain within 30 days).

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred

Experience teaching swim lessons, officiating, or coaching sports.

YMCA program experience.

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or willingness to obtain within 6 months.

Bilingual skills are a plus.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Ability to swim, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Exposure to wet environments, pool chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.Must be able to remain alert and respond promptly in emergency situations.

Employment Requirements

Must pass background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) check according to YMCA policy.

Must maintain all required certifications and training throughout employment.
