Junior Capital Markets Trader Job Description Please note: This is an on‑site role, candidates must be local.

OVERVIEW The Junior Capital Markets Trader will support the trading and risk management activities of the Capital Markets team. This role provides hands‑on exposure to secondary marketing, mortgage‑backed securities (MBS) trading, loan sales, and pipeline hedging. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and a desire to grow into a senior trading role within the mortgage banking industry.

EXPECTATIONS

Assist in executing TBA mortgage‑backed securities trades and whole loan sales under the direction of senior traders.

Support the daily hedge position management process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all trade entries and reports.

Monitor market trends, interest rate movements, and investor pricing to identify and communicate trading opportunities.

Prepare daily position and P&L reports for management, highlighting key changes and drivers.

Collaborate with senior traders to optimize pipeline performance and maintain effective risk coverage.

Work with the operations and accounting teams to ensure accurate trade settlements and data integrity.

Maintain and update trading and pricing models, investor grids, and internal performance metrics.

Participate in process improvement projects to enhance trading and reporting efficiency.

Develop relationships with investors, brokers, and internal stakeholders to support smooth execution of trades.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

1–3 years of experience in mortgage banking, capital markets, trading, or financial analysis.

Basic understanding of fixed‑income products and secondary mortgage market concepts.

Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in Excel; SQL or VBA knowledge is a plus.

Foundational knowledge of mortgage‑backed securities and interest rate risk management.

High motivation to learn trading and hedging strategies.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
