The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and ensuring the financial integrity of ThermAir Systems. This leadership role manages financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and team development. The Controller partners closely with senior leadership, Payroll, HR, and Operations to maintain accurate, timely, and compliant financial practices that support the company’s growth and multi‑state operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and revenue recognition standards under ASC 606.
Coordinate annual external audits and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and reporting requirements.
Maintain adherence to internal accounting policies and regulatory standards across multiple jurisdictions.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department leaders to develop and monitor budgets.
Oversee short‑and‑long‑term forecasting, analyzing variances and trends to inform business decisions.
Manage Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) schedules, cost‑to‑complete projections, and gross margin tracking.
Provide financial insights that drive cost control, cash flow stability, and revenue growth.
Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure integrity of financial reporting.
Review and update accounting procedures in line with audit findings and best practices.
Coordinate with bonding, insurance, and banking partners to maintain compliance with contractual requirements.
Manage cash flow projections, progress billing schedules, and retainage tracking for active projects.
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team (AR/AP, project accounting, and general ledger staff).
Establish clear goals, conduct performance evaluations, and foster professional growth.
Promote collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the finance function.
Cash Management & Treasury
Oversee company‑wide cash flow management, working capital optimization, and liquidity planning.
Manage relationships with financial institutions and ensure compliance with loan covenants and credit agreements.
Direct the preparation of cash flow forecasts and monitor short‑ and long‑term funding needs.
Strategic & Cross‑Functional Partnership
Collaborate with senior leadership to shape and execute company financial strategy.
Participate in long‑term capital planning and cost‑benefit analysis.
Partner with HR, Payroll, and Operations to align financial data with workforce and project performance.
Serve as a trusted advisor on fiscal health, opportunities, and risks.
Experience and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA or CMA preferred.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including managerial roles.
Strong understanding of GAAP, ASC 606, and multi‑state compliance.
Experience with construction or mechanical contracting preferred.
Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Excel, and job‑costing ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct Construction, Viewpoint Vista, or equivalent).
Demonstrated leadership, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
Integrity, confidentiality, and adaptability in a fast‑paced environment.
